Tangled with some dandy salmon on day 1, followed by above average, to say the least, fall steelhead fishing on day 2. 

Capped off the end of day 2 of with the "double" shown below.  Good time, hope we can do it again !

Jennifer (above) and Paul (below), both from SE Michigan, joined me for their first ever fly fishing trip in pursuit of salmon.....and did they get a fantastic introduction !  The 24+# beast that Jennifer landed took nearly 20 minutes to bring in....sore arm and all !  Great time, thanks again Jen and Paul, hope to see you again.

A "duker" of an early run, Pere Marquette river Chinook Salmon....she took a "lickin'", but was released just fine and we hope she makes a bunch of babies just like her !

Mike, from west Michigan, does battle with a Smallmouth bass (above).   After a couple great jumps and a run that peeled a good deal of line off the reel, he brought it to the net, pictured below.

Jack & Marek spent a spring day on the Muskegon river in Newaygo Michigan, steelhead fishing with me.  Here's a short clip of what we thought was another steelhead hooked by Jack, but instead it was a beast of a Michigan brown trout.....

 The Pere Marquette river fished good for Jon and myself yesterday.  Using floating line-indicator rigs, we managed to tussle with a number of winter steelhead.

November 30, 2008 - George & his daughter Katie, both from SE Michigan, share in the "feel of steel".  Both tussled with a number of fish today and each put multiple in the net....nice !!

November 28, 2008 - Doug (L) and Jack (R) fished together yesterday and had a "better than the average Joe" fall/winter steelhead trip on the Muskegon river.  Each holds a sample of their catch from yesterday....

Matt, from WA, holds a brilliant fall steelhead caught caught on the Muskegon river as Dave looks on.......Dave got the "feel of steel" as well, shortly after this fish was released.

George and Mike fished together recently and tangled with a number of steelhead throughout the day.  Pictured above is George holding a nice, plump female steelhead and Mike below with a very fresh "chromer" that just entered the river system in recent days.

*Caddis hatches during the day and into early evening.

*Look for BWO's on cloudy days and/or early morning.

*Sulphurs late afternoon into early evening.

*Gray Drakes, plus some Isonynchia's starting at dusk.

All hatches are bringing heavy shouldered Brown trout and Rainbow trout to the surface for good dry fly fishing!

Fall 2008

Toshi Yoshioka holds his first king salmon, caught on the Pere Marquette river in September......he didn't stop there though....

.......he strikes again with a nice, fresh male salmon, however this time on the Manistee river......he's not done yet !....

........how about a feisty young Manistee river steelhead on the same day.....and.....

......a resident brown trout to complete a Great Lake Grand Slam on a fly rod !  Outstanding time out with his son Seigo, who is pictured in the gallery with numerous fish of his own.....Thanks guys !
